Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Bridge

Project Details

The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway bridge in Matagorda, TX is a cast-in-place concrete, box-girder bridge. The box shape is shallow and wide at midspan. As the girder approaches the supports, it gradually becomes deeper and narrower to form a perfect miter with the pier.

The bridge piers take a double anchor shape in plan to match the contour of the bridge above. The piers are artfully displayed at night by well placed lighting within the vertical slots of the pier elevation.

The elegant bridge has become a landmark over the Intracoastal Waterway. It welcomes marine traffic as it gracefully spans a daring 320 ft. channel.
